Bio

Jamila Barakat is a Berlin-based artist and educator. Her interdisciplinary practice focuses on memory, migration, belonging and social structures, combining visual art with writing.

She studied Fine Arts at the Berlin University of the Arts and Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin. She holds a Master of Education in Fine Arts and Political Education and completed her Meisterschülerin degree at the Berlin University of the Arts in 2025.

Her work has been exhibited at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art, ZK/U - Center for
Art and Urbanistics and Galerie Georg Nothelfer. Her solo exhibition Hoffnung أمل was presented at Galerie im Turm from December 2025 to February 2026. Her writing has been published by Archive Books, Arts of the working Class and Nour Verlag. In 2026, her text In den Rissen der Stille appeared in an anthology of the same title, which was named after her contribution.
She is also a co-founder of the Interspace Collective.
